Weak Lensing of the CMB by Large-Scale Structure

چکیده
Several recent papers have studied lensing of the CMB by large-scale structures, which probes the projected matter distribution from z = 10 to z ≃ 0. This interest is motivated in part by upcoming high resolution, high sensitivity CMB experiments, such as APEX/SZ, ACT, SPT or Planck, which should be sensitive to lensing. In this paper we examine the reconstruction of the large-scale dark matter distribution from lensed CMB temperature anisotropies. We go beyond previous work in using numerical simulations to include higher order, non-Gaussian effects and find that the convergence and its power spectrum are biased, with the bias increasing with the angular resolution. We also study the contamination by the kinetic Sunyaev-Zel’dovich signal, which is spectrally indistinguishable from lensed CMB anisotropies, and find that it leads to an overestimate of the convergence. We finish by estimating the sensitivity of the previously cited experiments and find that all of them could detect the lensing effect, but would be biased at around the 10% level.

Mapping the Dark Matter through the Cmb Damping Tail
The lensing of CMB photons by intervening large-scale structure leaves a characteristic imprint on its arcminute-scale anisotropy that can be used to map the dark matter distribution in projection on degree scales or ∼ 100h Mpc comoving. We introduce a new algorithm for mass reconstruction which optimally utilizes information from the weak lensing of CMB anisotropies in the damping tail. Indivi...
متن کاملLensing reconstruction with CMB temperature and polarization
Weak gravitational lensing by an intervening large-scale structure induces a distinct signature in the cosmic microwave background ~CMB! that can be used to reconstruct the weak-lensing displacement map. Estimators for individual Fourier modes of this map can be combined to produce an estimator for the lensing-potential power spectrum. The naive estimator for this quantity will be biased upward...
متن کاملWeak Lensing: Prospects for Parameter Estimation
Weak lensing of galaxies by large scale structure can potentially measure cosmological quantities as precisely as the cosmic microwave background (CMB) though the relation between the observables and the fundamental parameters is more complex and degenerate, especially in the full space of adiabatic cold dark matter models considered here. We introduce a Fisher matrix analysis of the informatio...
متن کاملLensing-induced Non-Gaussian Signatures in the Cosmic Microwave Background
We propose a new method for extracting the non-Gaussian signatures on the isotemperature statistics in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) sky, which is induced by the gravitational lensing due to the intervening large-scale structure of the universe. To develop the method, we focus on a specific statistical property of the intrinsic Gaussian CMB field; a field point in the map that has a lar...
متن کاملDetectability of Gravitational Lensing Effect on the Two-point Correlation Function of Hotspots in the CMB maps
We present quantitative investigations of the weak lensing effect on the two-point correlation functions of local maxima (hotspots), ξpk−pk(θ), in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) maps. The lensing effect depends on the projected mass fluctuations between today and the redshift zrec ≈ 1100. If adopting the Gaussian assumption for the primordial temperature fluctuations field, the peak stat...
